Thursday December 30, 2010

So I am going to document this years track season.  I do not know why other than I feel it my responsibillity to show someone that I can actually do something with my time.  Well, not entirely true.  I do a lot but never write any of it down.  Except for a journal I kept for a couple of years (should probably pick that up again as well).  Anyway the 2010 sportbilke track season ended on October 3rd for me as it was my last track day.  And it was amazing.  I was riding my wife's 2007 Kawasaki Ninja 650R.  Why you ask?  Because in 2009 I decided to wreck my first track bike, a 2000 Honda CBR600RRF4.  Luckily I had picked up this bike relatively inexpensively and I have been able to pilfer from it for the new bike.  Well getting back to the point, the Ninja 650 is a good bike but it can't makeup for my lowsy riding skills and my wife wants her bike back.  So I will do what every red blooded american does.....buy more power.  So I head down to the local bike store to buy a 2010 run of the mill 600cc track bike.  Well most of the local bike shops do not have any 2010 bikes.  They have 2009, 2008, 2007 and used bikes of various years.  Seems the economic downturn forced the local shops to only order 2010 bikes when a customer wanted to buy one and left them with a lot of 2009 and 2008 bikes.  Luckily for me the Yamaha R6 didn't have much change between the 09 and 10 versions so I negotiated a really good price.  This left me with an adequate budget to swap out the parts I needed for the track.  Anyway last night I got started on the tear down.  Here are the pictures of the bike as I brought it home.
